Tuesdays with Morrie
Have you ever had a special teacher that taught you things you’d never understand, but never gives up?
They know tough lessons take a life time to learn.
“Tuesdays with Morrie” is a great movie that encapsulates the meaning of life.
Mitch, a sports journalist, preoccupied with his job, discovers that his former teacher Morrie, affectionately known as ‘Coach’, is dying of ALS (amyotrophic lateral scoliosis) and decides to visit him after feeling guilty as he previously promised to keep in touch.
Mitch lives in the fast lane. He’s in a relationship, unable to commit, a multi-tasker and a traveller who is constantly on the phone. Conversely, Morrie puts the phone down, and focuses on his wife and people around him.
Mitch meets Morrie who discusses with him his love of dancing and food. He discusses why silence makes people uneasy- just like death.
They meet again after Mitch’s relationship breaks down and he realises Morrie’s wisdom was helping him. They decide to meet on Tuesdays. Mitch brings lunch and Morrie discusses various topics with him including death, love, marriage, regret, family and fear.
This movie is a must-see with great wisdom and life messages throughout. In particular for me it was that life no matter what is one of teaching and learning- regardless of whether you are the teacher or the student- it never ends – just like love.
Take care and enjoy your journey!
